That's A Wrap!
Curious about my thoughts on the finale of Project Runway? Read below. Beware of spoilers!
Before we get into the fashion, I, along with the final four designers, freaked out when Christian announced Serena Williams as the guest judge. Love her, inspired by her and she slayed the runway in her animal print dress. She is, as Karlie Kloss said, a “revolutionary woman”.
Victoria
That first look turned the corner and I immediately blurted out “I want those pants!”. I loved this collection. I felt that each piece embodied the brand she created for herself. Her fellow designers obsessed over the dress she made in a few hours and so did I. I mean...COME ON. It takes me a few hours to decide what to wear in the morning (okay, maybe that is a slight exaggeration). My favorite look has to be her all white ensemble with the white short-sleeved embellished top paired with high-waisted pleated pants and a wrap around skirt. This look is crisp, it is clean, it is perfect.
Nancy
Yes Bri Scalesse. Yes. If you didn’t know who she is before Thursday night, you do now. She is a model in a wheelchair and she slayed when opening Nancy’s show in that gorgeous blue dress. You didn’t see the wheelchair, you saw her and she WERKED it.
Watching each look come down the runway, I felt like this is where fashion is going now. WIth the molten metal fabrics and innovative silhouettes, the collection could have felt too futuristic, but it didn’t. My favorite look is the dark purple gown with a hood. This dress looks like it was just poured onto her, the fit is that perfect. I love how strong the model looks in it- she is a Glamazon that you do not want to mess with.
Sergio
Sergio is not this fan’s favorite, but his first look immediately captured my attention in all the right ways. His collection felt very light and effervescent (much like the ocean he is trying to save). I loved his color palette with the different shades of blues and white- each look getting more intense as the colors got darker. His third look had me shooketh with the pale blue off the shoulder top and the wide-legged crisp white pants. If I could reach through the screen and pluck that outfit off the runway I would have. Mom, why is this outfit not in my closet?
Geoffrey
The word DARING perfectly defines Geoffrey’s collection. He took risks with each look and those risks worked. He is a very innovative designer, I mean...who sews with steel? And he pulled it off impeccably. While his collection was not necessarily the most wearable, it was cohesive, original, and beautiful. It was challenging to pick a favorite but, when push comes to shove, his penultimate look stole my heart. This long, cape-sleeved top dripping in gunmetal sequins and maxi pleated skirt screams luxe.
And the winner is...Geoffrey! I must admit his collection was not my personal favorite (that honor belongs to Victoria) but I thought his collection, inspired by armor and appropriately named Purple Heart, was a knockout from start to finish.
That’s a wrap on Project Runway season 18! This season did not disappoint. They had a diverse cast of models and designers, the challenges were original and the fashion...well, that was everything.
